Fees

Fees for psychological services are not supported by the Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP). It is important that you check with your benefits provider before contacting any mental health worker. Whereas psychologists fees are included in your benefits, other mental health workers, such as psychotherapists and counselors often are not, and you may not be reimbursed.

Treatment sessions are 50 minutes duration, plus an additional 10 minutes for treatment planning and payment. Fees are due at the end of each treatment session, and payments may be made by cash, personal cheque, and e-transfer. You will be issued an invoice at the end of each session, which you can either submit to your benefits provider to request reimbursement or claim as a medical expense deduction on your income tax return.

Please note: If you cannot attend an appointment, you must provide 24 hours notice to avoid full fee charges for late cancellations or missed appointments.

Confidentiality

In general, all communications between a client and a psychologist are confidential except where required by legislation or directed by the courts. Examples of such exceptions include reporting a suspicion of child abuse or a child in need of protection to the Simcoe-Muskoka Family Connexions; if you present a clear, imminent risk of serious physical or mental harm to yourself or someone else; if you have been sexually or physically assaulted by another health provider; if your file is subpoenaed by a court of law; if the regulatory body governing the practice of psychology in Ontario requests access to my files for quality assurance purposes or for investigating a complaint against me.
