Goals of Treatment
Dr. Gwen Jenkins
Clinical Psychologist
Life can bring a wealth of positive experiences and good feelings, but it can also bring situations and feelings that are painful and which can make you feel 'stuck'. Although mindful of your past experiences, my goal is to work with you to develop strategies to manage or overcome some of the present-day emotional pain that is impairing your quality of life. I work collaboratively with you, in a way that honours your values and beliefs, to find solutions that are manageable and that fit with your life circumstances. I use an integrative approach to treatment, which means that I principally adhere to a Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT) model, but that I incorporate other treatment modalities, such as Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), positive psychology and mindfulness-based approaches, to provide the most appropriate support for your specific needs.
Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB): I have worked extensively with First Responders, including fire fighters, paramedics, and police suffering workplace injuries, including traumatic stress, such as Posttraumatic Stress Disorder, moral injury, and acute stress reactions. If you have any concerns about the negative impact of your work on your mental health and general well-being, I will work with you to determine next steps in your healing.
